Central Sewing Volunteers

Over the last 25 years, Central Sewing Volunteers (CSV) have made thousands of quilts, pillowcases, clothing, baby items, large tote bags, Christmas stockings, and much more to give to WIN House for the individuals and families they serve.

About Central Sewers**

Central Sewing Machines on Argyll Road has hosted Central Sewing Volunteers (CSV) since 1997. Store owners Muriel Jensen and Keith MacMillan generously provide a weekly meeting place and use of the sewing classrooms, as well as being the drop-off place for accepting fabric donations for CSV to use.

Most of the volunteers are women with sewing experience, but rookies and individuals of other genders are welcome. Some new members are "not quite quilters", but learn the craft. Retiree Richard Killips is a former TV repairman, and currently the only man in the group. His daughter encouraged him to get into sewing as a hobby. "I'm still learning stuff everyday", he said. Each person brings their own skills, and gets involved in the part of the work that is most of interest to them. These volunteers are filled with enthusiasm and creativity.

Since fabric is donated, volunteers do the work, and Central Sewing Machines provides space for CSV, why is it necessary to fundraise?

The biggest expense is for the filling (batting) that gives the quilts their warmth. The batting is purchased in bulk from a manufacturer for the 250+ quilts made every year. In 2022, this cost over $6000. Any additional funds go towards other materials that have not been donated, such as larger pieces of fabric for quilt backs, thread, and other sewing supplies.

Your tax receiptable donation to WIN House directed to support Central Sewing Volunteers will help us keep providing quilts and other handmade products for the individuals at WIN House.
